Julia Bierema was born in the Metro Detroit area, but moved to Grand Rapids in 2000. She graduated from Kenowa Hills High in 2001. She completed her undergraduate work at Grand Valley State University where she majored in both mathematics and Spanish. For the 5 years prior to joining the Kent Innovation High staff, she taught mathematics and Spanish at Ridge Park Academy. During that time, she also returned to GVSU and completed her master's degree in educational leadership. She enjoys creating math projects that capture the attention of students through humor and real world applications/relevance.
