I am excited to come to school every day and discover new things with my students.  Students are some of my favorite people because you get to experience the joy of learning with them.  I love the passion and unique perspectives that my students bring to class. My teaching philosophy is that learning is a collaborative effort and that students need to be at the center of constructing their knowledge.  I value project-based learning at Kent Innovation High because it allows students to interact with their community, to collaborate with diverse people, and to engage in problem-solving. It is profound to observe high schools students who are able to build off of one another's strengths and support each other's learning.

I have a  tall, red-headed husband and a short, brown-haired daughter.  My husband is a Michigan State alumnus and this has lead to many disputes in our house.  As a family, we enjoy board games and card games. My daughter is cut throat when it comes to Uno.  In my free time, I am an avid reader and will try to get everyone - friends, family, and students - to borrow a book that I have read and loved.

I grew up in Lake City, Michigan, a small town with a big lake about two hours north of Grand Rapids.  I graduated in a class of fewer than 100 students. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Natural Resources Management from Grand Valley State University and a Master’s in Educational Studies from the University of Michigan.
